Ministries

Why this page exists

A ministry is the biggest unit in BSCF Network. Each one gets its own page on the public site, its own colour on the shared calendar, its own teams, and its own set of admins and coordinators. Every single event belongs to exactly one — which is how authority stays scoped, so running New Life never means being able to change Impact's calendar.

Adding a ministry here is what makes it available everywhere else: in the event form, when creating a team, and when granting someone a role.

Who can do this

Site-wide admins can add and remove ministries. A ministry admincan edit their own ministry's name, description, photo, times, and colour — but not create new ones or delete any.

Adding a ministry

  1. 1Go to Admin → Ministries.
  2. 2Fill in New ministry at the bottom: a name is the only thing strictly required.
  3. 3Add a tagline (one line, shown on its card) and a description (shown on its own page).
  4. 4Pick a calendar colour— this is how its events are told apart from every other ministry's on the shared calendar, so choose something distinct.
  5. 5Create ministry. It's on the public Gather page immediately.

Create ministry

Default times and location

Doors open, Starts, and Usual locationare the ministry's standing details. They show on its page, and the schedule generator copies them onto every event it creates — so setting them once means a whole year of generated services already has the right time on it.

Leave them blank for a ministry that doesn't meet on a fixed schedule.

Hiding vs deleting

Once a ministry has events or teams attached, it can't be deleted — that history would go with it. Set Visible on the site to Hidden instead. It disappears from Gather and from every picker, and everything it holds stays intact and can be brought back.

Good to know — deleting is only offered for a brand-new ministry with nothing attached yet — the case where it was genuinely a mistake. Everything else should be hidden.

Giving someone access to a ministry

Adding the ministry is only half of it. To let someone run it, go to Admin → Directory, open their record, and grant them a role for that ministry under Ministry access. See People: Approvals & Roles for what each tier can do.
